Started in 2014 with the purchase of our first 5 alpacas, Wreay Syke Alpacas began life in Gatebeck, a small village near Kendal in Cumbria. Although only 5 minutes from the M6, Kendal is called “the gateway to the Lakes” because it is also on the very edge of the Lake District with access to all that this has to offer.

Wreay Syke evolved from an initial idea to have an allotment to grow fruit and veg but after buying a 5 acre field it was clear we needed to find something else to add to our allotment. After a lot of research we discovered alpacas are perfect chicken guards of which we had 5 and even better grass cutters so after visiting a couple of shows, speaking to and visiting other alpaca owners we decided this was something we would like to do and so began our journey.

In 2015 we also moved house to be closer to our alpacas and our location now means that we are perfectly situated to share these wonderfully quirky and inquisitive creatures with everyone by offering a variety of different alpaca experiences.

Also in 2015 our first cria (baby alpaca) Aztec was born and even more special as he was born on our daughters birthday. In 2016 Brock was born and in 2017 we welcomed Carmelo and our first girl to be born Chestnut so our trekking team is evolving every year.
